Clementine and Olive are quite the dynamic duo!
We're going to tell you a tail of two cats today and don't be surprised if by the time we're through you're devoted, dedicated fans! After all, it's not easy to make it on social media, so to stand out takes a dose of creativity above and beyond.
Clementine and Olive are delivering those doses, heaping doses, actually, and if you haven't heard of them before today then you're in for a treat of catnip proportions. Their Instagram is lively, incredibly vibrant and colorful, and their sassy cattitude is the thing social media was practically designed for!
We reached out to their humans to get to know their story a little better and couldn't be more delighted to share the details with you right meow.
Sphynx cats and Devon Rex cats are birds of a feather, peas in a pod, and also same but different.
"The major difference between the two is that one of them has a coat and the other one is practically hairless. The Devon Rex is known for its' short hair and wavy coat. Whereas, the Sphynx is coat-free. This makes both the cats look wildly distinct from each other despite having the same build and facial structure."
Sphynx cats have soft, leathery skin and usually some fine, soft hair. Some Sphynx cats, like Clemmy, are significantly fuzzy, though, too! Sphynx cats came into existence in the 1960's through selective breeding, as breeders were intentionally seeking the natural occurring genetic mutation of hairlessness.
We asked Clementine's human how their journey as a family began:
"We had recently lost our beloved black cat, Scamp, to old age, and the following months made us realize just how much we missed having a cat around the house. We had always loved the sphynx breed, and decided to look into bringing one into our home."
"We located a sphynx breeder a few hours away and got in contact with her, and after she shared pictures of her upcoming available kittens, it was love at first sight - the chipmunk cheeks and huge ears won our hearts immediately! we decided to make the road trip and the rest is history."
Olive's Story:
"A few years later we felt that Clemmy needed a friend, and once again, we were completely taken with the devon rex breed and their pixie-esque appearance. I belonged to a “retired breeders” page on facebook, and happened to stumble across a beautiful 5 pound girl with BIG blue eyes named Lacey who immediately stole our hearts."
"I contacted the breeder, expressed interest, and after a trip to the vet for our little girl, we were told she was ours. After yet another 12 hour road trip - 6 hours there and 6 hours back - we met the second love of our life, the little angel we decided to re-name as Olive. and so, she became Olive the other love!"
"Clemmy is a rather calm, chill girl - she is more than content to sit on the front porch all day with her mom and bask in the sun, or lay in her favorite window bed and watch the birds and the squirrels. She absolutely loves her exercise wheel and can be heard all throughout the day running on it and meowing until someone comes and praises her for her form LOL!"
"Olive, on the other hand, is a sparky, fiery little menace who somehow manages to find her way into everything while still looking utterly adorable. She is constantly catapulting herself on top of the refrigerator, the cabinets, the dining room table, and anything else she can possibly reach."
"She’s our little “wild child,” so to speak, who loves her catnip, her toys, and her nightly playtime, where she runs up the stairs with a toy in her mouth and meows loudly until someone wakes up and plays with her, or until she tires herself out."
"I started dressing Clemmy as soon as we brought her home, seeing as she would shiver when the AC was on, and when the weather got colder. I was obsessed with her cuteness and joined several facebook sphynx groups when someone suggested starting an Instagram to share her cuteness with the world!"
"I took their advice and started posting her pictures on Instagram daily, and soon discovered she was a natural in front of the camera - the kitty sure knows how to pose! I started feeling more and more creative and confident with my methods as the page grew more popular."
